Join Shinkei as a Build Engineer

El Segundo, CA • Full Time • $100K–$140K

What You Get To Do:

  • Own the full mechanical build of our Poseidon robotic systems from start to finish
  • Develop new processes for new production required by new product development
  • Assemble, integrate, and debug electro-mechanical subsystems including actuators, motors, PCBs, plumbing, and structural assemblies
  • Identify design issues during build and work directly with the design team to implement improvements
  • Build fixtures, tools, and processes that make each unit faster and more reliable to assemble
  • Diagnose failures quickly through teardown, root-cause analysis, and hands-on testing
  • Ensure every Poseidon unit meets quality, fit, alignment, and performance standards before deployment
  • Collaborate with technicians and engineers to improve the repeatability of every subsystem
  • Maintain build documentation, assembly procedures, and checklists as systems evolve
  • Help plan and execute the build infrastructure and processes needed to triple robot production in 2026
  • Work closely with design engineers to influence new revisions based on real build-floor feedback

What You Will Need:

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience assembling or building electro-mechanical hardware; 3+ years preferred
  • Ability to read and produce CAD models, mechanical drawings, and specifications
  • Strong mechanical intuition with the ability to diagnose issues and propose fixes quickly
  • High proficiency with power tools, hand tools, and standard shop equipment
  • Comfortable owning tasks independently and driving work to completion
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with design engineers and technicians
  • Experience with build documentation or writing clear assembly instructions
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to fishing sites and work with the field engineering team on a dock or boat

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Fixtures or tooling design experience
  • Experience with automation, robotics, or motion systems
  • Familiarity with Siemens NX or similar CAD software
  • Experience with fluid systems, alignment procedures, or precision mechanical assemblies

Other Things To Know:

  • Expect to work long hours outside of standard business hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends to support testing activities, technician schedules, and production deadlines
  • This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on building hardware that will be deployed into harsh maritime environments
  • You will be the primary owner of Poseidon system build reliability and drive the pace the company needs
  • You'll move between CAD reviews, wrench-in-hand assembly, troubleshooting on the floor, and pushing design updates
  • Success requires ownership, urgency, and a willingness to solve problems where they happen, not from behind a desk
